The Gare St-Lazare: Paris £750

COPY STUDIED AND RESEARCHED IN THE MUSEE D`ORSAY PARIS

A copy, unsigned, of Claude Monet`s Gare St Lazare which tries to capture the bright sunny scene at the railway staion in Paris

It was quite a task copying this famous Monet work. I worked in the museum in Paris from using  pastel pencil sketches on a pad to match the colours, before doing the painting in my studio.. Doing a quick sketch then mixing the pastel colours is probably the best way to match the colours if you are front of the original.

There have been some alterations to the Gare St-Lazare staion itself. There are many platforms and the angle of the roof is now covered in, but the roads, buildings and the Europa road bridge are still there. On the bridge you can still find the spot where Edouard Manet set his famous painting, also called Gare St-Lazare. However little has changed in the area around the station.
